Checking In

Hey, all! This month is moving surprisingly quick for me, and I was surprised to find that I haven’t posted anything in a while, so here’s a quick update.

I hope people have been getting at least some entertainment playing around with the willpower checks I’ve added to many of the game menus. So far, I don’t think I’ve gotten any serious complaints about it not working (though there have been a number of serious bugs in other areas that have been reported). I hope that means things are working well enough for the time being.

I’ve been dividing my attention between a few things since that release…

I spent a little time thinking about how to improve some of the aspects of the system that aren’t quite working out as intended (mostly seen with things like choosing your work attitude for the day).

Additionally, I’ve been brainstorming ideas and writing up some short scripts for more work scenarios where the PC will be influenced by their mental programming or will have to face additional willpower checks, hopefully making them a more important aspect of gameplay.

I’ve also been trying to write more actual scenes, with the hope of getting more new content in the game for the next build (and there have been plenty of things in the game people are interested in me following up on).

Lastly, there are sex scenes and sex mechanics that I still want to get into the game before too much longer. I’ve played with plenty of ideas in the past that didn’t quite work out how I wanted them to, but at the very least, they’ve been learning experiences.

I’m still checking out other people’s games and trying to glean ideas from those. Newlife was an early inspiration, and while the game isn’t entirely to my tastes, I was impressed with how much work was put into the sex system of Lilith’s Throne. I’ve been following X-Change Life with great interest, but I’m pretty sure those sorts of mini-games would be out-of-place in Interns.

I keep promising myself that I’m going to keep it simple, and that is still the plan, but I really want to get a good combo of simple, satisfying, and entertaining, if at all possible, which I know can be a challenge when it comes to any kind of sequence that is repeated frequently in the course of a game.

Oh, and the last thing to note: There haven’t been any updates to the Ren’Py engine in some time, but I’ve recently seen that Ren’Py 8.0 is on its way. It seems the engine will finally be moving on to Python 3, but I’m not entirely sure what that will mean for Interns just yet. I’ll be keeping an eye on it, with fingers crossed that it’ll be a good thing and not cause too many problems for the existing code.
